On 18 December, Bluepharma launched the facsimile edition of the book Pharmacopea Ulyssiponense, made from an original copy in the University Library, at the Sala Pedro of the General Library of Coimbra University.

“This is the fourth book of a series of 10 to which we committed in 2014 to republish one publication per year. An initiative undertaken in collaboration with the General Library of the Coimbra University and the Coimbra University Press, in a partnership which is a great honour to us. And always counting on the precious research work of Prof. João Rui Pita – essential to this project for the recovery of very important publications in the History of Pharmacy ", says Paulo Barradas Rebelo, Chairman of Bluepharma.

The presentation of the new pharmacopoeia made by João Rui Pita, professor of the University of Coimbra Pharmacy School, at a ceremony attended by Paulo Barradas Rebelo, Chairman of Bluepharma, José Augusto Bernardes, Director of the General Library and Delfim Ferreira Leão, Director of the Coimbra University Press.

The original Pharmacopea Ulyssiponense dates back to 1716, and is written by João Vigier, French chemist who settled in our country and worked in the pharmaceutical industry.

This is a complex and remarkable book in Portuguese pharmaceutical literature, and was the first pharmacopoeia to introduce chemical medicinal products in a systematic manner in Portugal.

“Because we highly respect the past that brought us here, we continue to work tirelessly in the present, but always looking to the future. So it makes perfect sense to republish this Pharmacopea Ulyssiponense – and I am grateful to all those who collaborated to make this remarkable work possible" – highlighted Paulo Barradas Rebelo, president of Bluepharma.
